AXL AS-1020-BR Badwater USA SRO Electric Guitar, Antique Brown

AXL AS-1020-BR Badwater USA SRO Electric Guitar, Antique Brown Review

AXL AS-1020-BR Badwater USA SRO Electric Guitar, Antique Brown Feature

  • Assembled in Hayward, CA, USA
  • Distressed Solid Alder Body
  • Orange Drop Capacitor
  • 3 Alnico Single Coil Pickups
  • 5-Way CRL Selector Switch

AXL AS-1020-BR Badwater USA SRO Electric Guitar, Antique Brown Overview

The American Badwater SRO is our version of a true American classic - an unbeatable combination of world-class components and American assembly. The Seymour Duncan Five-Two pickups on the AS-1120 model are a unique mix of Alnico 2 magnets on the treble strings for warmth and a softer attack, and Alnico 5 magnets on the bass strings for punch and brightness. Our "Super- 7 switching" utilizes a push-pull pot to engage the bridge pickup regardless of switch position - adding two more pickup combinations for even more versatile tone shaping. CTS pots are connected by cloth-covered wire, and Orange Drop capacitors give a creamy, classic tone. We use a true-vintage-style bent-saddle bridge and TonePros Kluson tuning machines for the proper weight and sound just like the instruments from the 1950s. We hand press every fret with some of the highest quality fretwire available; then level and dress them for flawless playing in any register. Combine all of those parts with a solid alder body and maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, a Graphtech Tusq nut, and a finish unlike any other available; all you need to do is plug in and play - the sound and feel are truly unheard of at this price. The AS-1020 model features all of the above but substitutes AXL Alnico pickups and is offered at a lower cost with standard 5-way switching and Grover mini-Rotomatic tuners.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar, Wine Red - Chrome Hardware Left Handed

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar, Wine Red - Chrome Hardware Left Handed Review

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar, Wine Red - Chrome Hardware Left Handed Feature

  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and acrylic trapezoid inlays
  • Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers with three-way toggle, separate tone/volume controls
  • Nashville Tune-o-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece
  • Vintage tuning machines with tulip buttons and 14:1 ratio
  • Chambered mahogany body with maple top and set-neck construction

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar, Wine Red - Chrome Hardware Left Handed Overview

Ever since hitting the streets in 1983, Gibson’s Les Paul Studio has been the ultimate offering of traditional Les Paul performance with a modern, no-frills attitude. Introduced as a guitar mainly for studio musicians, the Les Paul Studio has become one of the most desired – and popular – Les Pauls for its tremendous harmonic and sonic qualities. All of the essential elements of a Les Paul Standard are there, including a carved maple top, solid mahogany back and genuine Gibson humbucker pickups. What the Les Paul Studio lacks in extras, it makes up for in performance.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar, Wine Red - Chrome Hardware Left Handed Specifications

Originally designed as a model for studio artists but adopted wholeheartedly by countless players of all stripes, the Les Paul Studio combines stripped-down appointments with the full tonal splendor and unrivaled playability of a Les Paul Standard at a significant financial savings. All the elements of the legendary Les Paul Standard are still there, including that fat and sweet maple-and-mahogany tone through two genuine Gibson humbucking pickups. By eliminating a little of the window dressing--namely, building the guitar without binding around the body top or fingerboard, and applying an elegant gold silkscreened logo in place of an inlay--the Les Paul Studio weighs in at a price that players have found irresistible for three decades. And it all looks great, naturally, in your choice of four hand-sprayed nitrocellulose finishes: Wine Red, Ebony Black, Alpine White or Fire Burst (Ebony and Wine Red also available left-handed).

Gibson Les Paul Studio in Wine Red--Left Handed Chrome Hardware

Chambered Mahogany Body

The body of each Les Paul Studio is crafted from chambered mahogany, joined to a solid carved maple top with ultra-strong Franklin Titebond 50 glue. These classic tonewoods have yielded some of the most legendary sounds in the history of rock.

Mahogany is a medium-dense wood with excellent resonance and superior sustain, and it offers a rich, round, warm tone, but with plenty of high-end sheen and good mid-range presence. Add a solid maple top, and the guitar's tone is enhanced with added clarity, sustain and definition. The body's chambering also enhances its mellow acoustic resonance, and adds further air to the midrange content.

Set Mahogany Neck

The neck of the Les Paul Studio is constructed from solid mahogany, cut using the superior "quarter sawn" orientation for improved strength and resonance. The angled, classical-style peg head and mahogany neck work together to provide exceptional tonal richness and resonance from the neck, with a good string definition and sustain.

Gibson uses what is known as the Mortis & Tenon joint to bind neck to body so that the two pieces form one solid unit. This time-tested technique has been used for millennia in all the great woodworking arts--from shipbuilding to cabinetry--to create one solid wood unit from two separate sections, and has been proven to yield a stronger neck and body than if the instrument was made from a single piece of wood.

Les Paul Studio Pickups
The Les Paul Studio carries two of Gibson's most popular humbucking pickups, a 498T in the bridge position and a 490R in the neck.

Les Paul Studio Tuners
Vintage-style tuners with tulip buttons and an efficient 14:1 turn ratio.

Les Paul Studio Bridge
Gibson Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece.
22-Fret Rosewood and Ebony Fingerboards

Ebony and rosewood has always graced the fingerboards of the world's finest stringed instruments, including many of today's Gibsons. The fingerboards on the Les Paul Studios are constructed from the highest grade ebony and rosewood on the planet, and are personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories. The resilience of these dense and durable woods make the fingerboards extremely balanced and stable, giving each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The 12-inch radius of the fingerboard provides smooth note bending capabilities and eliminates "dead" or "choked out" notes, common occurrences on fingerboards with lesser radiuses.

The Les Paul Studio fingerboard carries acrylic trapezoid position-marker inlays, echoing the traditional look of the original Les Paul Standard.

Angled Headstock

The Les Paul Studio headstock is carefully angled at Gibson's traditional 17 degrees, which increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain.

The headstock of the Les Paul Studio is equipped with vintage-style tuners with green tulip buttons and an efficient 14:1 turn ratio. These tuners provide a classic look in line with the model's lineage, and smooth, robust performance.

Tune-o-Matic Bridge

In 1954, Gibson revolutionized guitar hardware when it debuted the Tune-o-matic bridge, setting a standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered. Included on the Les Paul Studio, the Tune-o-matic provides a firm seating for the strings, allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes. It also yields excellent coupling between strings and body, maximizing resonance, tone, and sustain. This bridge is made from Zamak then plated in chrome, and each one weighs approximately .118 lbs.

Every Tune-o-matic bridge is combined with a separate "stopbar" tailpiece, which is essentially a modified version of the earlier wraparound bridge that's designed to further enhance the connection between the strings and the body. The Les Paul Studio's stopbar tailpiece is made from Zamak then plated in chrome, and each one weighs approximately .24 lbs

498T and 490R Pickups

Gibson's 498T and 490R pickups ("T" for treble, and "R" for rhythm) have the traditional characteristics of the original "Patent Applied For" pickups of the late 1950s, with a few upgrades. These pickups take advantage of wax potting, which does away with any air space inside the pickup, therefore lessening the chances of microphonic feedback. The result is a humbucker with the tonal characteristics of an original PAF, with a slight increase in upper mid-range response. The Gibson 498T bridge pickup is the 490R's ideal complement.

Taking the 490R one step further, the 498T is wound a little hotter and also swaps the Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, giving it more punch and greater emphasis on midrange and highs. The pole pieces on the 498T are also aligned a little further apart to accommodate the spacing of the strings at the bridge, which is different than the spacing of the strings at the neck.

A three-way toggle is included for pickup selection, and each pickup gets an independent volume and tone control.

Nitrocellulose Finish

The Les Paul Studio is hand-finished in nitrocellulose in a process that is carefully monitored to ensure minimum build-up, in an effort to produce a finish that breathes with the guitar and enhances natural resonance. The final coat is hand-buffed to a high-sheen gloss. Unlike many other manufacturers, who settle for a polyurethane finish, Gibson opts for a nitrocellulose finish that will encourage the natural vibration of the instrument for a purer tone. In addition, a nitro finish is very porous and actually gets thinner over time.

The Les Paul Studio is finished your choice of Wine Red, Ebony Black, Alpine White or Fire Burst.

PRS Guitars SE Singlecut Electric Guitar (Black) Feature

  • 22 frets
  • Maple Top
  • Tremolo
  • 25 Inch Scale
  • Gig Bag Included
  • Maple Top, Tremolo, 22 frets

PRS Guitars SE Singlecut Electric Guitar (Black) Overview

The 2011 SE Singlecut Trem features the same mahogany body, maple top and flame maple veneer as our popular SE Singlecut but has been set with a PRS designed tremolo bridge. A 22-fret, wide-fat mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard adds to the rich tones of this instrument. The PRS designed treble and bass humbuckers give you a variety of great sounds for whatever style of music you play.

PRS Guitars SE Singlecut Electric Guitar (Black) Specifications

The SE Singlecut Trem features the same mahogany body, maple top and flame maple veneer as PRS's popular SE Singlecut but has been set with a PRS designed tremolo bridge. A 22-fret, wide-fat mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard adds to the rich tones of this instrument. The PRS designed treble and bass humbuckers give you a variety of great sounds for whatever style of music you play.

A wide range of tonal possibilities.

The SE Singlecut Trem

PRS Perfection Within Reach
The SE Singlecut features a maple top with flamed maple veneer, and is available in translucent finishes. These new models come with solid mahogany backs and necks and provide a level of quality not seen in guitars in this price range.

Wide Fat Neck
The Wide Fat neck has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck but has a big comfortable profile, similar to PRS's Regular neck. Because of its strength and longer "heel," the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.

PRS Tremolo
Back in 1984, Paul Reed Smith was granted a patent on his tremolo system. The design elements are simple and resemble the traditional fulcrum tremolo but with some important differences that help ensure return to pitch and a lack of tuning instability. All adjustment screws are inset and made of brass, and there are no rough edges. The tremolo arm stays where you put it, and won't wobble or break off.

Available Colors
The SE Singlecut Trem is available in Black and Tobacco Sunburst finishes.

Finish
PRS finishes their instruments with a polyester basecoat and acrylic urethane topcoat. Acrylic urethane looks and feels the closest to the old nitro-cellulose finishes but without the finish checking.

The PRS Mission Statement
Guitar building is an ongoing process of discovery. We are devoted to the guitar's rich heritage while committed to new technologies that will enrich our products with uncompromised tone, playability and beauty. Our success depends on our ability to listen, implement positive change and continually refine our craft.

Believing this, we strive to build the best guitars and guitar products possible and to serve our employees, customers, suppliers and community with distinction.

With its Rockfield Fat Ass pickup in the bridge, Mafia pickup in the neck position, and aggressive red pinstripes, there is no mistaking the sonic damage you can inflict with this WMD. Neck-Through Construction Neck Through construction is used on the WMD Warbeast because it provides the best possible sustain, resonance, comfort and access to higher frets. Neck-through has long been considered the premium construction method for high-end guitars. This construction starts with a long piece (or pieces) of premium North American maple. That piece runs from the tip of the headstock to the strap button on the opposite end of the guitar. This means that the headstock, fingerboard, pickups and bridge all are mounted to this single sound foundation. Sonically it is a difference you can hear. The neck-through construction also allows deeper cutaways, providing comfort no bolt-on or set-neck could offer. Rockfield Pickups - Mafia & Fat Ass Bridge Pickups - Fat Ass Aggressive in its own right, the Rockfield FAT ASS bridge pickup was designed for a specific group players in mind: those with crazy, super acrobatic playing styles. The ones at the gig that make everything look so effortless and easy. As you watch in amazement you say, "Man I need to practice" or, "That's it, man, I quit!" This pickup's custom designed bobbins house larger pole pieces that help transfer string vibration from pulls, bends and leads so the user gets less tonal drop off, better articulation and note definition. The Rockfield FAT ASS has a well balanced overall tone that is mean and bold with major sustain, huge bottom end and cutting mids and highs that jump out at you. Each note is full and rings true from this pickup while you take

Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus Electric Guitar, Iced Tea Overview

Introducing the Les Paul Traditional Plus Iced Tea from Gibson USA. With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the Traditional plays, sounds, and weighs like the Les Pauls today’s players grew up loving and lusting after. Taking design and visual cues from the Les Pauls of the ’80s and '90s, the Les Paul Traditional starts with an un-chambered mahogany body with traditional weight-relief holes for a beefy tone that maintains the resonance of modern Les Pauls. The Traditional Plus also comes with a little extra — a beautifully figured Maple top reminiscent of the fabled tops of the Les Pauls from the late '50s and early '60s. Each Les Paul Traditional also comes with Gibson USA’s standard black snakeskin case.

Taylor's Dreadnought
The original Dreadnought acoustic guitar appeared early in the 20th Century, and its no-frills, no-nonsense shape made it a logical namesake of the huge battleships of that day. Most subsequent Dreadnoughts, including Taylor's, have been derivative of that early design. In 1997, however, Bob Taylor re-designed the Taylor Dreadnought by softening the curves at the top and bottom and generally refining its overall shape. In 2003, gloss-finish Dreadnoughts also underwent bracing refinements that substantially increased their overall volume and bass response, without sacrificing Taylor's signature balance and clarity. Dreadnought six-strings shine as "plectrum" or "rhythm" guitars because they respond well to flatpicking or light-to-heavy strumming.

Features an Abalone soundhole rosette and detailed pearl inlays.

Sitka Spruce top is joined with Indian Rosewood sides and back for a rich sound and appearance.

A Venetian cutaway in the Dreadnought body allows better access to the upper frets. In the past, many players moving to acoustic guitars grew accustomed to the cutaways on their electric guitars, while others simply like the freedom of movement into the upper register that a cutaway allows. Now, cutaways are favored as much for their decorative appeal as for their function.

A Strong Bass and Long Sustain
The top is made from Sitka Spruce, a dense, straight-grained wood that has the highest strength and elasticity-to-weight ratio among available tonewoods. It's these attributes that make Sitka Spruce an ideal material not only for soundboards, but also for internal bracing. The Sitka top will produce a tone slightly brighter tone than Engelmann Spruce.

The back and sides of are made from Indian rosewood, which is coveted by players and guitar builders alike for its dark, luxurious coloration that ranges from brown to purple to rose to black. Indian rosewood has tonal characteristics that include a strong bass response and long sustain, and remains the most popular tonewood used in the making of high-quality acoustic guitars.

Pure Reproduction of An Acoustic Sound
In the past, Taylor had relied on after-market pickups that employed traditional piezo technology. But the result was a distorted tone that failed to capture the natural acoustic richness and dynamics of a Taylor for live performance. After several years of research, Taylor designed their own groundbreaking pickup system that uses magnetics much like a microphone. The result is an exceptionally pure reproduction of an acoustic guitars natural sound. The Taylor Expression System delivers an amplified tone that will satisfy the most demanding pro player, yet makes it simple for anyone to plug in and sound great.

The Taylor Expression System gives you a natural acoustic sound.

The Expression System incorporates three different magnetic sensors. Two strategically placed Dynamic Body Sensors affixed to the underside of the soundboard capture the complex nuances of the tops vibration, while a Dynamic String Sensor mounted beneath the fretboard extension registers string and neck vibration. The preamp boosts the pickup signal cleanly, without the need for artificial EQ "coloration." The balanced, low-impedance signal the Expression System produces can run direct into a mixer or PA in most situations, and is free of distortion at almost any volume.

Three simple, unintrusive onboard control knobs preserve the aesthetic beauty of your Taylor, yet allow you to easily adjust the volume, bass, and treble to suit your personal preferences and performance environment. When set flat, the tone controls add no color and produce the most natural sound. Or, add bass or treble (or subtract) to adjust for the room or personal tastes. The payoff is in the purity of high-fidelity amplified tone, unprecedented dynamic range, and extraordinary resistance to feedback and distortion. It enables all of the expressive subtleties of your playing to come through, just the way you intended.

Construction
Taylor takes pride in using the finest quality woods for their guitars, like ebony for every fretboard they make. The tone woods for the 810ce were quartersawn and carefully book-matched before being sorted, dried, and prepared by Bob Taylor and his experienced team of luthiers. The 810ces delicate inlay and binding work was also done by hand, providing care and "touch" that no machine can give. Taylor believes that precision matters, which is why they rely on laser cutters and computer-aided milling machines to consistently hit minute tolerances that were impossible a decade ago.

Balance and Bracing
A balanced tone is critical to a quality recorded sound. Guitars that are too heavily weighted towards a particular end of the tonal spectrum (too "bassy," for example) tend to be tougher to record. While the Dreadnought shape has more volume or bass than other shapes, the overall balance on the 810ce is not compromised.

Most Dreadnought players prefer a flatpicking, heavy-strumming guitar, able to put out some serious volume and beefy bass frequencies. Dreads have more bracing mass, so they shine as "plectrum" or "rhythm" guitars. Revoicing in 2003 (500 Series and up) created a completely new Taylor Dreadnought: one that is louder, with deeper bass frequencies, yet manages to maintain the clarity and balance of the trademark Taylor tone.

The fretboard is adorned with the Pearl 800 series inlays.

Straight Necks Matter
Don't all guitars have straight necks? The answer is usually yes, but the real question is will they stay that way? Since its inception, the acoustic guitar had a major design flaw. The fretboard lacked sufficient support to remain truly straight because of top movement caused by changes in humidity. All guitars experience this phenomenon--often resulting in a slight bump at the 14th fret--but not all guitars respond to it in the same way.

Introduced in 1999 and a standard feature since 2001, the patented New Technology (NT) neck was designed by Bob Taylor and his team to accomplish the primary goal of building a straighter, more stable guitar neck. While some necks may bend in the face of humidity and other factors, the NT Neck stays stable and straight.

Adjustability is another major NT advantage. Since the NT Neck angle is created by spacers and requires no glue, adjustment simply requires a repairperson with a new set of spacers and about five spare minutes. Altering the neck angle of a traditional neck assembly could require invasive surgery to remove wood and relocate the bridge.

The bottom line: The NT Neck on the 810ce means a stable, easy-to-adjust neck that stands up to the pressures all acoustic guitars face.

Tuners
Precise, gleaming tuners add appealing form to an important function, while the type of strings used can alter the feel and the tone of your guitar. Taylor pays careful attention to both, using tuners and strings that are optimized for the 810ce guitar. Together, they are among the keys to an easy-playing, incredible-sounding Taylor.
