The description calls this a "Satin" finish guitar when in reality (at least the one I received) was SUPER glossy. I posted photos to show the difference.

Also, the product photo shows a much lighter color than what I received. The front of the guitar is darker and a richer, redder tone than it shows here and the sides are even a deeper color. Honestly, I like it a lot better than the one in the product photo.

The tuner knobs and the metal parts around them are gorgeous. (Again, I posted a photo with more detail.) I don't know if the way it's manufactured is a good or bad way of mounting and engineering the tuning keys but I love the way they look. We tuned the guitar and it's been holding so far.

My son (13 y.o.) was playing my full size guitar and having a lot of trouble getting his fingers around the neck and his right arm/elbow in a comfortable position. This 3/4 size is perfect for him.

The sound is nice, though I'm not a pro. I don't have a lot to compare it to. There are three plastic (nylon) strings which I'm sure could be changed for metal but right now they've done the job.

I have owned this guitar for about 3 years and I am more impressed with it now than the first day I brought it home. I have a number of guitars and the only classical guitar I own that I think compares favorably is an Alvarez-Yairi CY 118. While the Yairi is a beautiful instrument in tone and workmanship, the value of it is that of a classical guitar which resonates throughout your body as you play it. On the other hand, the Cordoba 55RCE sounds wonderful but does not have quite the acoustical resonance of the Yairi. But, the Cordoba has an electronic piezo pickup system that makes the guitar come alive when played through a halfway decent amplifier. The Cordoba includes an electronic tuner and 3 band equalizer as well as a presence modifier with its electronic package. On the whole, the Cordoba is a well rounded instrument that you will enjoy playing with or without and amplifier for years.


As with any fine classical guitar, I would highly recommend that you play it before you buy it. All fine guitars are a little different. If it is not possible to play before delivery, make sure you can return it within a reasonable amount of time. This should not be a problem for the dealer. If it is, say goodbye and take your business elsewhere. The Cordoba 55RCE is made from some of the finest wood available in a time of scarcity of fine woods. But, even the best of woods do not guarantee long-term structural integrity. This is not a guitar to take to the beach and play along with your friends singing because significant changes in humidity will harm the wood and could cause cracking and/or warping. Since the Cordoba has an excellent warranty, please make sure that you take care of it in the prescribed way (to the extent practical) to preserve the value of the warranty, and more importantly to preserve the sound and beauty of the instrument. Even though it is covered by a warranty, you do not want to be without your guitar for any period of time that it takes to fix it properly. It takes a little extra time to care for your Cordoba, but it is worth it. Buying a Cordoba 55RCE is buying art that is functional as well. If you are lucky enough to acquire one of these fine instruments, I wish you luck and all the happiness that will come from your playing.

I was hesitant to purchase this guitar but based on the reviews and the fact that this guitar is one of the top sellers I decided to buy one for my seven year old child. I didn't know what to expect since I have not purchased an Amigo before; the brand does not even have its own website. Overall the construction is good. The satin finish and unfinished interior look clean. I can attest to the fact that the top IS SOLID and not laminate.

The original strings sounded absolutely dead so I swapped them with D'Addario EJ45s. The tuners were fine but I went ahead and swapped them with Gotoh economy lyra style classical tuners from stewmac.com, which was basically a plug and play operation. I had to make two new holes for two screws; I basically used pressure to seat the screws. A gig bag does not come with the guitar so I had to search high and low for a nice padded gig bag that would fit the below dimensions. Action is high. I had to lower the height at the bone saddle and synthetic nut. I lowered the saddle by sanding it down with sandpaper. For the nut, I purchased some inexpensive (<) nut files and used them to lower the action at the nut. The fretboard looks dyed black. Fret ends are smooth.

Approximate dimensions: Overall length - 32 3/8"; body length - 15"; upper bout width - 9"; waist width - 7 13/16"; lower bout width - 11 1/2"; body depth - 3 15/16"; scale - 20 1/2"; nut width 1 3/4"; E to E string width - 2 1/8".

Now to the good part. The size is perfect for my child. With the new strings, the sound is surprisingly good. The tone, helped by the solid top, is enjoyable to listen to if not as resonant and rich as a full size quality classical guitar. The body does resonate when plucking the strings. Does not sound boxy at all. With some minor upgrades and adjustments, I am very happy with this guitar, although I did have to pay a little bit more to replace the strings, tuning machines (optional Gotohs from stewmac.com), purchase a new gig bag (purchased one on eBay from 2Kool4Skool, which fit perfectly!), purchase sandpaper and nut files (from eBay) to take care of the action at the saddle and nut.
